As part of the main program, 18 speakers from various disciplines presented their scientific breakthroughs. Shep Doeleman of the Harvard Smithonian Center for Astrophysics reported on the milestone of taking the first photo of a black hole. Mark Post of Maastricht University explained the revolutionary approach he is taking to the future of laboratory meat production. At the same time, Segenet Kelemu of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology in Nairobi presented the benefits of insects as a high-protein, globally available food. In this way, they showed different ways of sustainably feeding humanity in the future in times of progressive climate change and dwindling resources.
