Landesregierung will keine Bootsflüchtlinge freiwillig aufnehmen

The state government opposes the plan of Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bonn as well as 13 other cities and communities from NRW to voluntarily accept boat refugees rescued from distress at sea. "Those who accept boat refugees on a preferential basis provoke even more people to take part in the lottery for life and death in the Mediterranean in the hope of a better life", Integration Minister Joachim Stamp (FDP) told the newspaper "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger".

"We are clearly and unequivocally committed to our humanitarian responsibility in the reception of refugees," the Minister continued. It must be clear, however, "that there can be no privileging of individual groups in asylum procedures". The 16 NRW municipalities are part of the "Safe Havens" alliance, to which 120 cities nationwide have joined. They are calling for possibilities for the uncomplicated reception of people who have been rescued from distress at sea in the Mediterranean. In addition, they want to help alleviate the humanitarian refugee disaster on the Greek islands and take in around 1000 unaccompanied minors, some of whom have to live there in large tents, voluntarily and above the current allocation quotas. pm, ots, mei
