Oktober 1943. In seinem Heimatort steht der Name des SS-Mannes gemeinsam mit gestorbenen Soldaten auf einer Tafel mit der Überschrift "Unseren Gefallenen Helden".
Schuster teilte auf Anfrage der "NOZ" mit: "Dass ein hochrangiger SS-Mann wie Johann Niemann, der Tausende von Menschenleben auf dem Gewissen hat, auf einem offiziellen Gedenkstein seines Heimatortes geehrt wird, ist unerträglich." Das Denkmal befindet sich im Besitz des Bürgervereins Völlen. Es habe zwar Gerüchte im Ort über den Namensgeber auf dem Bauwerk gegeben, versicherte der Vereinsvorsitzende auf Anfrage der "NOZ".
Zeithistorische Dokumente wurden auf dem Dachboden entdeckt
"Konkretes Wissen gab es aber nicht." Diskussionen um das Denkmal waren offenbar erst mit der Veröffentlichung von Fotos aus dem Besitz Niemanns Anfang Januar aufgekommen.
