The President of the German Conference of Education Ministers does not currently consider it necessary to close schools nationwide in view of the coronavirus.

Italy is apparently considering this for all schools and universities. In an interview with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung", however, Rhineland-Palatinate's Education Minister Stefanie Hubig ruled out this for Germany at this time and also stated: "Postponement of holiday dates is not an issue at the moment.

Hubig announced that in the circle of the ministers of education and cultural affairs, the handling of the virus will be discussed again at a conference next week.

According to Hubig, the situation in Germany is very different. "For all schools, however, hygiene measures must now be paid more attention to and the entire school family must be sensitized to this issue. In Rhineland-Palatinate, for example, the health authorities decided in individual cases and in consultation with the responsible bodies whether it was necessary to close schools. "The school inspectorate provides advice on all school law issues in this context, including the question of school trips, and has set up a hotline for this purpose," Hubig explained with a view to her state. pm, ots, mei
