Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek (CDU) wants to provide more funds for the research of a vaccine against the new coronavirus: "We will probably increase the funds for the development of the vaccine. A vaccine would of course be the best way to prevent future diseases caused by the virus," said Karliczek in an interview with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ).

Intensive research on the coronavirus is also already being carried out in Germany. A worldwide first diagnostic test has been developed at the Charité hospital in Berlin. "This was also possible because we support health research on a broad basis," said Karliczek. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research had just increased the funding for virology by ten million euros. This funding is for the potential use of existing drugs and the development of new drugs for the treatment of COVID-19, a disease caused by the virus. pm, ots, mei
