Der Ifo-Index für die Produktions-erwartungen stieg im Februar von plus 2,2 auf plus 2,5 Punkte. Die Umfrage war allerdings abgeschlos-sen, bevor die Ausbreitung des Coronavirus ihr gegenwärtiges Ausmaß erreicht hatte.
In der Autoindustrie legte der Index zu von plus 3,8 auf plus 6,1 Punkte, in der Herstellung von Gummi- und Kunststoffwaren von minus 2,5 auf plus 3,0 Punkte. Bei den Herstellern für elektronische Ausrüstungen stieg der Index von minus 6,1 auf plus 0,4 Punkte. Branchen, in denen der Index sich verbessert hat, die Unternehmen aber mit einer abnehmenden Produktionstätigkeit rechnen, sind die Herstellung von Metallerzeugnissen (von minus 12,3 auf minus 6,8) und die Metallerzeugung und -bearbeitung (von minus 21,0 auf minus 18,4). In der Chemiebranche ist der Index besonders stark gefallen, von plus 10,2 auf minus 1,5 Punkte im Februar. Im Maschinenbau haben sich die Aussichten weiter verschlechtert. In February, German industry expected a slight increase in production for March, April and May. This is the result of the latest Ifo Institute survey.
The Ifo index for production expectations rose in February from plus 2.2 to plus 2.5 points. However, the survey was completed before the spread of the coronavirus had reached its current level.
In the automotive industry the index rose from plus 3.8 to plus 6.1 points, in the production of rubber and plastic goods from minus 2.5 to plus 3.0 points. For the manufacturers of electronic equipment the index rose from minus 6.1 to plus 0.4 points. Sectors in which the index has improved, but in which companies expect production activity to decline, are the manufacture of metal products (from minus 12.3 to minus 6.8) and metal production and processing (from minus 21.0 to minus 18.4). In the chemicals sector, the index fell particularly sharply, from plus 10.2 to minus 1.5 points in February. In mechanical engineering, the outlook has deteriorated further.
