English version

The coronavirus does not leave the global stock markets unscathed. The Nikkei Index, for example, plummeted by 1,000 points and the Dax fell below the 11,000 point mark. And the price of crude oil slumped by 30 percent, with the Japanese Nikkei Index comprising 225 leading stocks.

It fell below the psychologically significant 20,000 point mark today, Monday. The Dax also lost ground and dropped below 11,000 points. According to analysts, the gains of the past year have thus been destroyed.

Other stock markets were also affected by the coronavirus. The leading index of the Seoul stock exchange, for example, lost more than four percent. In China, the Shanghai Composite lost three percent and Shenzhen over four percent. In addition, the oil market is causing major turbulence. The background to this is the dispute over production volumes and the consequences of the corona virus. This is mainly due to the sharp drop in demand for kerosene by the airlines. Today, the price of a barrel (159 litres) of crude oil was quoted at around 30 US dollars. This is the lowest oil price since 1991. mei
