Bisher war geplant, am Tag des Kriegsendes in Europa, 8. Mai, im Rahmen des Staatsakts mit einer Rede von Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier auf dem Platz der Republik in Berlin des Endes des Weltkriegs und der Befreiung vom Nationalsozialismus durch die Alliierten 1945 zu gedenken. An der Veranstaltung sollten unter anderen Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel, die Präsidenten der Verfassungsorgane Bundestag, Bundesrat und Bundesverfassungsgericht, Bundestagsabgeordnete sowie zahlreiche Gäste aus dem Ausland - besonders aus den historisch relevanten Ländern - teilnehmen.
Treffen mit jungen Menschen aus verschiedenen Nationen
Auch mit vielen jungen Leuten aus verschiedenen Nationen hatte sich der Bundespräsident aus diesem Anlass treffen wollen. Das wird ebenfalls zu diesem Datum nicht möglich sein. Anschließend an den Staatsakt sollte in der Neuen Wache ein Kranz niedergelegt werden. Vor dem Staatsakt war ein ökumenischer Gottesdienst im Berliner Dom geplant. pm, ots

The central act of state on the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War on 8 May in Berlin is cancelled. This was confirmed by the Office of the Federal President to the "Tagesspiegel". The background is the unclear situation due to the coronavirus pandemic. There has never been such a cancellation of a state act before. So far, the plan was to commemorate the end of the World War and the liberation from National Socialism by the Allies in 1945 with a speech by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the Platz der Republik in Berlin on the day the war ended in Europe, 8 May, as part of the Act of State.
