English version

Tradeunion ver.di Hessen has reacted with incomprehension and indignation to the fact that the state government continues to refuse to provide effective emergency aid for solo self-employed persons in their main occupation.

This refers primarily to freelance artists*, journalists* and such freelancers* who, for example, give music lessons or adult education seminars on a fee basis.

State district manager Jürgen Bothner: "With this attitude, the state of Hesse is mocking its cultural policy. Before Corona, the state only wanted to have media and cultural workers in the state. One also liked to adorn oneself with them - for example on festive occasions. Now the state sends them coolly into social welfare and then calls it an "unconditional basic income". This term is part of another debate and therefore rightly leaves those affected stunned. As a reminder: the standard rate for Hartz IV is currently 432 euros.

Country practices a two-tier system of economic aid

In this way the country is also practising a two-tier economic aid system. The 'real' entrepreneurs* get immediate help, the solo self-employed as micro-enterprises, which are obviously not considered 'real companies', should apply for social benefits," criticizes Bothner, "I consider this a scandal.

Small entrepreneurs from the creative industries threatened with insolvency

Volker Koehnen of the ver.di department of media, art and industry, adds: "Large parts of the journalistic media and art and culture scene in Hesse will simply not survive the corona crisis economically if there is no support from the state government. The basic income support or the receipt of Hartz IV as the very last stop line is less than the famous drop in the ocean. If the personally liable micro-entrepreneurs in culture and media could no longer finance their private living costs with their professional income, they would be threatened with insolvency: "They are just as entitled to economic and financial support as medium-sized or large companies", Koehnen concluded. pm, ots, mei
