Dabei gehe es um eine von Gewalt, Hunger und Dürre geprägte Region, in der schon vor Ausbruch des Virus insgesamt rund zehn Millionen Menschen internationale Hilfe benötigt hätten.
"Europa muss schnell aktiv werden und beim Aufbau funktionierender staatlicher Strukturen helfen, bevor sich die Lage weiter zuspitzt", erklärte der Flüchtlingsexperte. Zu nennen sei hier vor allem die Ausbreitung von Armut, Kriminalität, Terrorismus und des Waffenhandels.
