Christus-Statue in Rio de Janeiro bekommt Maske gegen Covid-19

English version

A mask worn by many people in the streets of Brazil and the world also covered the nose and mouth of the greatest Brazilian icon: Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer). As part of the initiative Todos pela Saúde (All for Health), an alliance of health professionals created to combat the novel coronavirus and its impact on Brazilian society, the campaign underlines the importance of protecting everyone when they leave home and reinforces the message #MaskSaves.

"The redeeming Christ presents Himself once again as the ultimate symbol for the formation of a collective conscience for the preservation of life," said Father Omar, Rector of the Shrine of Cristo Redentor.

One of the main recommendations

The use of protective masks is one of the most important recommendations of the authorities to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The measure is in line with recent medical studies which show the high transmission capacity of asymptomatic people, making it essential to use protection even in people who do not have a fever, cough, headache or sore throat.

Todos pela Saúde (All for health)

The campaign to promote the use of masks is part of the Todos pela Saúde initiative, which was launched with the aim of combating the novel coronavirus and its impact on Brazilian society. The initiative has four axes - informing, protecting, caring and resuming - and ranges from guiding and improving existing initiatives, to purchasing health equipment and training health workers, to purchasing and distributing contributions. Itaú, the largest bank in Latin America, provided USD 200 million to finance the establishment and activities of Todos pela Saúde.
