Viele Bundesliga-Profis seien enttäuscht gewesen, nicht frühzeitig in das im Zuge der Corona-Krise entwickelte Projekt des Finalturniers an einem Ort eingebunden gewesen zu sein. Vieles sei über die Köpfe der Profis hinweg entschieden worden. "So mussten die Spieler den ersten Schritt gehen und die Kommunikation aufbauen. Das fand ich sehr unglücklich, schließlich tragen sie bei diesem Turnier ja auch das gesundheitliche Risiko", sagte Doreth. Eine Spielergewerkschaft könne künftig dafür sorgen, früher Kommunikation zwischen Spielern, Vereinen und der Basketball-Bundesliga (BBL) zu schaffen.
Zuerst das Projekt skeptisch beurteilt
"Ich bin mir sicher, davon könnten alle profitieren", so Doreth. Der 30-Jährige ist als Athletensprecher des Deutschen Basketball-Bundes jetzt als eine Art Vermittler zwischen der BBL und den Profis der zehn Teams aktiv, die bis Ende des Monats in München den Deutschen Meister ausspielen. Zuerst hatte Doreth das Projekt skeptisch beurteilt, weil potenzielle Langzeitschäden im Falle einer Corona-Infektion auch für Leistungssportler ein nicht einschätzbares Risiko seien und sich auch die Frage eines fairen Wettbewerbs stelle.
