Zum 1. Januar soll der Rundfunkbeitrag von 17,50 Euro auf 18,36 Euro steigen. Im Landtag von Sachsen-Anhalt hat das keine Mehrheit, weil die drei größten Parteien CDU, AfD und Linke dagegen sind. Zusätzliche Sparbeschlüsse, um den Anstieg des Beitrags geringer ausfallen zu lassen, lehnte Buhrow ab. Die öffentlich-rechtlichen Sender hätten gerade in der Corona-Krise eine wichtige Funktion. "All das kann man nur machen, wenn man ausreichend Ressourcen hat." Sollte der Landtag die Beitragserhöhung ablehnen, hält Buhrow auch eine Verfassungsbeschwerde für denkbar.
Rundfunkfreiheit ist ein hohes Gut
"Das kann ich nicht ausschließen, weil die Rundfunkfreiheit ein so hohes Gut ist." Er wolle eine solche Konfrontation aber vermeiden und konzentriere sich jetzt "voll auf Überzeugungsarbeit".
Von den 18 Fernseh- und 67 Radioprogrammen der ARD sei jedes einzelne durch Staatsverträge gesichert, betonte Buhrow. Wenn die Politik Einschnitte wolle, müsse sie selbst konkrete Vorschläge machen. "Und warum scheut sich die Politik, das zu tun? Weil unser Produkt gut ist. Die Leute lieben das, was wir machen, und zwar alles: die Nachrichten, die Kultur, auch die Unterhaltung." Buhrow ist Intendant des Westdeutschen Rundfunks und hat den rotierenden ARD-Vorsitz seit Jahresbeginn inne. pm, ots

Of the 18 television and 67 radio programmes of the ARD, every single one is secured by state treaties, Buhrow emphasized. If politicians wanted to make cuts, they would have to make concrete proposals themselves. "And why are politicians afraid to do that? Because our product is good. People love what we do, everything: the news, the culture, even the entertainment."
