Die Bundesfinanzaufsicht Bafin habe sich lange nur für die Wirecard Bank zuständig gefühlt und die Wertpapier-aufsicht über die Wirecard AG unzureichend genutzt. Auch müsse die Behörde "öfters unangemeldet vor der Tür stehen".

De Masi wirft der Bafin im Fall Wirecard Untätigkeit vor, denn es habe immer wieder Medienberichte über Unregelmäßigkeiten bei dem Finanzdienstleister gegeben. Der Linkspolitiker vermutet, die Bafin "wollte nicht zu viel Staub aufwirbeln, um den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg dieses Unternehmens nicht zu gefährden".
