Fitness studios have lost customers in the Corona crisis. Compared to the same period last year, the number of members has dropped by 15 to 20 percent, said Botond Mezey, chairman of the Federal Association of Health Studios in Germany. The feared wave of insolvencies has not yet occurred, however. "It does not currently look like a wave of bankruptcies," Mezey continued.

The head of the association estimates that about five studios per week will have to give up. In total, there are about 9700 fitness facilities in Germany; in 2019, the industry had a turnover of 5.51 billion euros. Because of Covid-19, clubs throughout Germany were closed from March to mid-May due to corona, and in many states the studios were not allowed to reopen until June. pm, ots, mei
