"Aber es ist ein Fehler, dass einzelne Kommunen meinen, sie müssten sich an die Stelle der Bundesregierung setzen und ohne Zustimmung aus Berlin Flüchtlinge willkommen heißen."
Er warf den Gemeinden vor, "damit die Position des Bundes vor den Verhandlungen über die EU-Pläne klar geschwächt" zu haben. "Und sie haben das falsche Signal an die anderen Mitgliedstaaten gesendet. Im Ausland denkt man: Ah, da sind wieder die Musterschüler! So entsteht der Eindruck, Deutschland wolle in Brüssel auf Teufel komm raus seine Position durchziehen. Die Suche nach einem Kompromiss wird dadurch erschwert", begründete Sager seine Kritik.
"Verdienstvoll und ambitioniert"
Den am Mittwoch vorgestellten Reformplan der EU-Kommission nannte der CDU-Politiker in der NOZ "verdienstvoll und ambitioniert". Es sei "richtig und wichtig", dass Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen auch Länder wie Polen und Ungarn in die Pflicht nehmen wolle. Auch ein effektiverer Außengrenzschutz sei "ganz im Interesse der Landkreise". Grundsätzlich gelte: "Die EU braucht eine einheitliche Asyl- und Migrationspolitik. Daran hängt unsere gemeinsame Zukunft."
Pauschale Aussagen sind falsch
Kritik der AfD, Deutschland sei schon jetzt mit den aufgenommenen Flüchtlingen überfordert, wies der Landkreistag-Präsident entschieden zurück. "Die pauschale Aussage der AfD ist falsch. Wir waren 2015 nicht überfordert, und wir sind es auch jetzt nicht.
