Im Jahr 1999 hatte die Zahl der ins Ausland gezahlten Renten demnach noch bei rund 1,16 Millionen gelegen, was einem Zuwachs im Vergleich zu 2019 von rund 52 Prozent entspricht. "Der Anstieg beruht zu einem großen Teil auf der Zuwanderung von Arbeitnehmern vor allem aus Italien, Spanien, Griechenland, dem ehemaligen Jugoslawien und der Türkei in den 1960iger und 1970-er Jahren und der damit verbundenen Zahlung von Beiträgen zur gesetzlichen Rentenversicherung in Deutschland", sagte ein Sprecher der Rentenversicherung der Zeitung.
Ehemalige Gastarbeiter sind im Rentenalter
"Viele der ehemaligen Gastarbeiter sind nunmehr im Rentenalter und lassen sich die deutsche Rente nach Rückkehr in ihr Heimatland ins Ausland überweisen", so der Sprecher. Rund 1,26 Millionen Rentenzahlungen gingen den Angaben zufolge 2019 in 27 Länder der EU. Rund 500.000 Renten werden aktuell in die übrigen europäischen Länder gezahlt. Die restlichen Auslandsrenten gehen in verschiedene Länder weltweit. Den höchsten Anteil hieran hat die USA mit mehr als 81.000 Zahlungen. Rund 86 Prozent aller Auslandsrenten erhielten ausländische Staatsangehörige, die durch ihre Beitragszahlungen an die Deutsche Rentenversicherung Rentenansprüche erworben haben.

Darunter gehen mit rund 367.000 Zahlungen die meisten Renten nach Italien, gefolgt von Spanien mit knapp 200.000 und Griechenland mit rund 97.000 Zahlungen. Fast 14 Prozent der Auslandsrenten werden an Deutsche ausgezahlt, die ihren Wohnsitz oder gewöhnlichen Aufenthalt im Ausland haben.
