"Die Position, die unautorisiert im Namen der Ärzte- und Wissenschaft vertreten wurde, war nicht zielführend und hatte keine gute Wirkung, weil sie zur Verunsicherung der Bevölkerung geführt hat", sagte Michael Pfeifer, Präsident der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Pneumologie und Beatmungsmedizin (DGP), im Interview mit der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ).
"Die DGP bereitet gemeinsam mit den anderen Fachgesellschaften eine Stellungnahme vor, in der wir klar die abweisende Sichtweise der Fachgesellschaften darstellen", kündigte Pfeifer an.
"Wir erleben die Corona-Realität anders"
Auf die Frage, ob Gassen als Vorstandschef der Kassenärztlichen Bundesvereinigung zurücktreten müsse, sagte der DGP-Präsident: "So weit würde ich nicht gehen. Wir sehen diese Aussagen kritisch, da sie weder die Meinung der wissenschaftlichen Fachgesellschaften noch eine mehrheitliche Meinung der Wissenschaft darstellen." Pfeifer leitet die Pneumologie an drei Kliniken in Süddeutschland. "Wir erleben die Corona-Realität nicht nur anders und sehr intensiv im klinischen Alltag, sondern haben auch wissenschaftlich einen anderen Erkenntnisstand", sagte er.
Warnung vor neuen Verboten
Gassen, Streeck und der Virologe Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit hatten am Tag des Corona-Gipfels am vergangenen Mittwoch ein Positionspapier veröffentlicht, in dem vor neuen Verboten zur Pandemiebekämpfung gewarnt wurde. Schon mehrere Verbände, die in dem Papier als "Unterstützer" genannt werden, haben sich von dem Trio distanziert.
Lockdown eindeutig richtig
DGP-Präsident Pfeifer sagte der NOZ, der Teil-Lockdown sei "aus unserer Sicht eindeutig richtig". Die Vorhersagen von vor drei, vier Wochen seien eingetreten, teilweise schlimmer als angenommen. "Das heißt: Wir brauchen jetzt eine starke Reduzierung sozialer Kontakte, nur so bekommen wir die Pandemie vielleicht wieder unter Kontrolle."
Welle der Neuinfektionen brechen
Durch frühere Beschlüsse wäre es einfacher gewesen, die Welle an Neuinfektionen zu brechen, ergänzte der Arzt und betonte: "Es geht ja eben nicht nur um die Behandlung von Covid-19-Fällen. Wenn der Gesundheitsnotstand kommt, nehmen viel mehr Patienten Schaden. Schaffen wir die Grundversorgung nicht mehr, dann können ganz viele andere Fälle nicht länger optimal behandelt werden. Das ist die große Gefahr, vor der wir stehen."
Verlängerung des Lockdowns
Aus "medizinischer Sicht" könnten sogar weitergehende Maßnahmen oder eine Verlängerung des Teil-Lockdowns notwendig werden, wenn die Pandemie nicht gebremst wird, sagte Pfeifer weiter. "Stand jetzt können wir es aber auch schaffen. Wir haben viel gelernt. So wird mit Hochdruck an einem Mechanismus zur Verteilung von Covid-Intensivpatienten aus besonders betroffenen Regionen gearbeitet." pm, ots

Germany's pulmonologists have strongly condemned the anti-lockdown initiative by the head of the health insurance fund, Andreas Gassen, and the virologist Hendrik Streeck.
"The position, which was taken in an unauthorised way on behalf of the medical and scientific community, was not effective and had no good effect because it led to uncertainty among the population," said Michael Pfeifer, President of the German Society for Pneumology and Respiratory Medicine (DGP), in an interview with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ).
"The DGP is preparing a statement together with the other professional associations, in which we clearly present the rejectionist view of the professional associations," announced Pfeifer.
"We experience the Corona reality differently"
When asked whether Gassen had to step down as chairman of the board of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the DGP president said: "I would not go that far. We view these statements critically, as they represent neither the opinion of the scientific professional associations nor a majority opinion of the scientific community". Pfeifer heads the pneumology department at three clinics in southern Germany. "We not only experience the corona reality differently and very intensively in everyday clinical practice, but also have a different level of scientific knowledge," he said.
Warning of new bans
Gassen, Streeck and the virologist Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit had published a position paper on the day of the Corona Summit last Wednesday, warning of new bans to combat the pandemic. Several associations mentioned in the paper as "supporters" have already distanced themselves from the trio.
Lockdown clearly correct
DGP President Pfeifer told the NOZ that the partial lockdown was "clearly correct in our view". The predictions of three or four weeks ago had come true, in some cases worse than expected. "This means: we now need a strong reduction in social contacts, this is the only way we might get the pandemic under control again".
Breaking the wave of new infections
Earlier decisions would have made it easier to break the wave of new infections, the doctor added, stressing that "it is not just about treating Covid 19 cases. When the health emergency comes, many more patients will suffer. If we can no longer provide basic care, many other cases will no longer be able to be treated optimally. That is the great danger we are facing".
Extension of the lockdown
From a "medical point of view", even more far-reaching measures or an extension of the partial lockdown could become necessary if the pandemic is not slowed down, Pfeifer continued. "As things stand now, however, we can do it. We have learned a lot. For example, we are working flat out on a mechanism for distributing Covid intensive care patients from particularly affected regions". pm, ots, mei
