Renate Künast, tierschutzpolitische Sprecherin der Bundestagsfraktion, sagte der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ): "Deutschland hat den EU-Ratsvorsitz. Das müssen die Bundesregierung und Agrarministerin Klöckner nutzen und eine Initiative anschieben: Wir müssen die Pelztierhaltung in Europa beenden."
Das sei sowohl aus Gründen des Gesundheitsschutzes als auch aus Tierschutzsicht geboten, so Künast. "Das deutsche Tierschutzrecht fordert nach Gesetzestext einen ,vernünftigen Grund' dafür ein, dass Tiere getötet werden. Ein Pelzmantel ist kein vernünftiger Grund, Schmuck und Schönheit sind kein vernünftiger Grund", argumentierte die Grünen-Politikerin. Zugleich müsse über Importverbote sichergestellt werden, dass keine entsprechenden Felle aus dem Ausland importiert werden.
Niemand braucht Mantel aus echtem Pelz
"Niemand braucht im Jahr 2020 einen Mantel aus echtem Pelz. Es gibt genug wärmende Alternativen, für die keine Tiere leiden müssen", sagte Künast. Zuvor hatte die dänische Regierung verkündet, dass sämtliche Nerze in entsprechenden Pelzfarmen gekeult werden sollen. Betroffen sind Millionen Nerze.
