English version

Left-wing MEP Martina Michels has criticised the EU's position in the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. "The EU is now providing €3 million to support humanitarian aid and independent journalists* on both sides," writes the MEP, who is a member of the European Parliament's South Caucasus delegation, in a guest contribution to "nd.Der Tag".

"Overall, she is conspicuously silent, especially when it comes to Turkey's role in this conflict. There are suspicions that Turkey used Islamist fighters and even cluster bombs," continued Michels. "While the EU is calling for the investigation of war crimes and the immediate protection of cultural heritage on all sides, the EU is also calling for the protection of cultural heritage. But this, like the new protecting powers on the ground, will not solve the rising nationalism on both sides of the conflict". pm, ots, mei
