Britische Wissenschaftler gehen davon aus, dass ist die jetzt entdeckte Variante um bis zu 70 Prozent ansteckender als die bisher bekannte Form sei. Wie Premierminister Boris Johnson betonte, gebe es aber keine Hinweise darauf, dass die aktuellen Impfstoffe keine Wirkung auf den mutierten Virus hätten. Im Kampf gegen das Virus, gilt seit heute in der britischen Hauptstadt London und großen Teilen Südostenglands ein harter Shutdown mit Ausgangssperren. Das gelte auch für die Weihnachtstage.
WHO: Enger Kontakt mit Großbritannien
Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) steht nach eigenen Angaben im engen Kontakt mit Großbritannien. Man werde die Mitgliedsstaaten und die Öffentlichkeit auf dem Laufenden halten, so die WHO in einem Tweet auf Twitter. Es sollten alle Maßnahmen ergriffen werden, damit die Ausbreitung des Virus verhindert werde.

A new variant of the corona virus, which according to media reports is spreading rapidly in the south-east of England, is causing great concern among scientists and politicians.
