Der Gottesdienst findet in der Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche statt und wird live in der ARD übertragen. Gestaltet wird er vom Ratsvorsitzenden der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland, Landesbischof Heinrich-Bedford-Strohm, und dem Vorsitzenden der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz, Georg Bätzing.
Eingeladen sind auch Vertreter anderer Religions- und Glaubensgemeinschaften.
Im Anschluss daran lädt Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier zu einer zentralen Gedenkfeier ins Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt ein. Teilnehmen werden Hinterbliebene der Toten, Vertreter der Länder, die gesamte Staatsspitze sowie die Repräsentanten der christlichen Kirchen und Vertreter anderer Glaubens- und Religionsgemeinschaften. Die Rede ist von einer "interkonfessionellen Besetzung".
Bundespräsident und Hinterbliebene kommen zu Wort
Zu Wort kommen allerdings nur der Bundespräsident und Hinterbliebene. Das erfuhr der "Tagesspiegel" aus dem Bundespräsidialamt. Diese Veranstaltung wird live vom ZDF übertragen. Geplant wird wegen der Corona-Pandemie derzeitig noch zweigleisig, in einer kleinen und einer großen Variante. Die Zahl der Teilnehmer ist allerdings wegen der Corona-Abstandsregeln stark begrenzt.
Erzählungen der Hinterbliebenen
Die Erzählungen der Hinterbliebenen sollen im Mittelpunkt stehen. Der Ablauf der Gedenkfeier werde klassisch sein, hieß es, die Gestaltung aber offen. So würden sämtliche Stühle aus dem Konzerthaus entfernt, besonders wichtig sei der Einsatz von Licht als Gestaltungsmittel. Bei dem gesamtgesellschaftlichen Gedenken gehe es um die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Tod in der Pandemie, betont das Bundespräsidialamt, um ein Innehalten und eine angemessen Form der Trauer. The victims of the Corona pandemic are to be commemorated in Berlin on 18 April with an ecumenical service and a state memorial ceremony. The service will take place in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and will be broadcast live on ARD. It will be conducted by the Chairman of the Council of the Protestant Church in Germany, Bishop Heinrich Bedford Strohm, and the Chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, Georg Bätzing. Representatives of other religious and faith communities are also invited.
Afterwards, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will host a central memorial service at the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt. The bereaved families of the dead, representatives of the federal states, the entire head of state as well as the representatives of the Christian churches and representatives of other religious and faith communities will take part. There is talk of an "interdenominational line-up".
Federal President and bereaved families have their say
However, only the Federal President and the bereaved will have their say. The "Tagesspiegel" has learned this from the Office of the Federal President. The event will be broadcast live by ZDF. Because of the Corona pandemic, plans are currently being made for a small and a large version. However, the number of participants is severely limited due to the Corona distance rules.
Stories of the bereaved
The stories of the bereaved are to take centre stage. The sequence of the memorial service will be classical, they said, but the design will be open. All chairs will be removed from the concert hall, and the use of light as a design element is particularly important. The Office of the Federal President emphasises that the commemoration of the whole of society is about coming to terms with death in the pandemic, a pause for reflection and an appropriate form of mourning.
