In der Hinrunde trennten sich der FC Liverpool und der FC Everton im damaligen Spitzenspiel 2:2 unentschieden, dieses Mal geht es für beide Mannschaften vor allem um wichtige Punkte im Kampf um die internationalen Plätze. Die "Reds" liegen auf Platz sechs einen Rang und drei Punkte vor dem Stadtrivalen, der bislang jedoch eine Partie weniger absolviert hat.
