Germany's paediatricians and adolescent doctors have issued an urgent warning against closing practices during the "Easter rest". If doctors in private practice were not allowed to treat patients on the planned day of rest before Easter, the provision of medical services would be interrupted for five days at a stretch.

"That won't do! The plans make no sense and leave us stunned," said Thomas Fischbach, President of the Professional Association of Paediatricians and Adolescent Doctors, in an interview with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ).

"People have full calendars, cannot simply reschedule their appointments. Treatments, examinations and vaccinations would be cancelled or postponed. This causes great damage and does not help at all in the fight against Corona," Fischbach criticised the decisions of the federal and state governments to impose a five-day Easter break to fight the pandemic. "On the Tuesday after Easter, patients would then crowd in front of the practice doors without any distance, which would simply be counterproductive." Moreover, there is no legal basis for closing the practices, said the BVKJ President.
