Dieser Umsatz macht 15,1 Prozent des Sportcoupé-Marktes aus, im Vorjahr waren es 14,8 Prozent. Vor allem Performance-Varianten wie der Ford Mustang Bullitt sorgten für das gute Verkaufsergebnis. "Enthusiasten lieben den Ford Mustang. Das haben sie uns mit ihrer Nachfrage nach diesem weltbekannten Performance-Fahrzeug einmal mehr gezeigt", sagte Hau Thai-Tang, Chief Product Platform and Operations Officer, Ford Motor Company.
Verkäufe steigen um fast 53 Prozent
Die Verkäufe des Ford Mustang Bullitt und der Shelby-Varianten, die unter anderem in den USA angeboten werden, stiegen 2020 um 52,7 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr, wie aus internen Daten von Ford hervorgeht. Seinen Titel als meist verkaufter Sportwagen verteidigte der Ford Mustang außerdem in mehreren europäischen Märkten. Nach unternehmenseigenen Angaben stieg der Absatz 2020 in Ungarn um 68,8 Prozent gegenüber 2019. Auch in den Niederlanden (38,5 Prozent), Dänemark (12,5 Prozent), Tschechien (5,6 Prozent) und Österreich (4 Prozent) stieg die Nachfrage im Vergleich zum Vorjahr.
USA sind stärkster Markt
Im Jahr 2020 verkaufte Ford in Europa2 rund 7.000 Exemplare des Ford Mustang. Damit summiert sich der Absatz seit der Markteinführung 2014 auf fast 60.000 verkaufte Einheiten. Weltweit sind die Vereinigten Staaten der stärkste Markt und sorgen für rund drei Viertel der globalen Mustang-Verkaufszahlen.
Limitierte Modelle in der Planung
Ford will seinen Erfolg mit limitierten Modellen wie dem neuen Ford Mustang Mach 1 fortsetzen, der ein weiterentwickeltes Handling bieten wird sowie eine Reihe an Leistungsverbesserungen sowie ein einzigartiges Design, das an die legendären Mach 1 Mustangs der 1960er und 1970er Jahre erinnert. For the second year in a row, the Ford Mustang - which celebrates its 57th birthday this Saturday, 17 April - is the best-selling sports car in the world. The iconic "Pony Car" also retained its title as the best-selling sports coupe for the sixth consecutive year. According to market research firm IHS Markit1, a total of 80,577 units of the Ford Mustang were sold worldwide in 2020.
These sales account for 15.1 per cent of the sports coupe market, up from 14.8 per cent the previous year. Performance variants such as the Ford Mustang Bullitt were particularly responsible for the good sales result. "Enthusiasts love the Ford Mustang. Sales of the Ford Mustang Bullitt and Shelby variants, among others in the US, rose 52.7 per cent in 2020 compared to the previous year, according to Ford's internal data. The Ford Mustang also defended its title as the best-selling sports car in several European markets. According to the company's own data, 2020 sales in Hungary were up 68.8 per cent compared to 2019, while demand also increased year-on-year in the Netherlands (38.5 per cent), Denmark (12.5 per cent), the Czech Republic (5.6 per cent) and Austria (4 per cent).
USA is strongest market
In 2020, Ford sold approximately 7,000 units of the Ford Mustang in Europe2. This brings the total to almost 60,000 units sold since its launch in 2014. Worldwide, the United States is the strongest market, accounting for around three-quarters of global Mustang sales.
Limited models in the pipeline
Ford plans to continue its success with limited edition models such as the new Ford Mustang Mach 1, which will offer evolved handling, a range of performance enhancements and a unique design reminiscent of the legendary Mach 1 Mustangs of the 1960s and 1970s.
