Der Herero-Aktivist Israel Kaunatjike hat der Bundesregierung vorgeworfen, bei den Verhandlungen über ein Versöhnungsabkommen mit Namibia "im neokolonialen Stil" den Herero und Nama vorzuschreiben, was sie zu tun haben.
Er forderte Außenminister Maas und Bundespräsident Steinmeier auf, ihre Reisepläne nach Namibia zur Besiegelung des Abkommens zu überdenken. "Die sollten sich ein Beispiel an Willy Brandt nehmen. Der ging nicht zuerst ins Warschauer Parlament, der machte zuerst den Kniefall am Mahnmal des Warschauer Gettos. Steinmeier und Maas sollten erst mal nach Waterberg gehen und sich entschuldigen. Versöhnungsabkommen wird am 8. Juni vorgestellt
Am 8. Juni stellt die namibische Premierministerin Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila das sogenannte Versöhnungsabkommen im Parlament vor. Deren Partei, die Swapo, bestehe "mehrheitlich aus Ovambo und kann nicht über die Herero und Nama befinden", so Kaunatjike. Mit dem Abkommen soll laut dem deutschen Außenminister Maas ein gemeinsamer Umgang mit dem deutschen Völkermord an den Herero und Nama zwischen 1904 und 1908 vereinbart werden. Im damaligen Deutsch-Südwestafrika wurden 65.000 der 80.000 Herero und 10.000 der 20.000 Nama von deutschen Kolonialtruppen ermordet.Der seit 1970 in Berlin lebende Kaunatijke, der beim Bündnis "Völkermord verjährt nicht! Berlin Postkolonial" aktiv ist, fordert neue Verhandlungen, bei denen die legitimen Vertreter der Herero und Nama mit am Tisch sitzen. Diese seien "keine Befehls-empfänger von Deutschland".
