Zweiter Ball: Ein klare Fehlentscheidung

English version

Bundesliga referee Patrick Ittrich reveals whether he would have given the penalty in the European Championship semi-final between England and Denmark: "No."

Why the VAR didn't intervene: "There was a little touch on the knee, based on that they said they don't intervene there. It's not clear and it's obviously wrong.... Here I would say he takes advantage of the contact. The question is always how do I deal with it as a referee...? The referee was sure and made the decision. We judge from the slow motion and we have to say that it was not so good to give the penalty kick."

A purely discretionary decision

Why it was not interrupted because of the 2nd ball on the pitch: "That is purely a discretionary decision of the referee and the linesman. If the referee decides that there is no interference with the game, then the game is not interrupted. That's a very borderline decision, but it's not that you have to interrupt the game, but you can interrupt it.... If you see the players at that moment, it doesn't bother them at all."

Second ball: a clear mistake

Michael Ballack still found it questionable: "I can't understand that, because the ball is one metre next to the player with the ball and not ten metres away. Does this ball interfere with the game? That's what the referee has to assess and he assessed it wrongly. That's why it's a clear wrong decision." pm, ots, mei, Source: Magenta TV
