Davis Cup Finals 2021 in Innsbruck - zwei Tage vor dem ersten Gruppenspiel gegen Serbien zeigt sich die deutsche Davis Cup Nationalmannschaft voller Zuversicht.
In einer virtuellen Pressekonferenz am Donnerstagnachmittag standen Kapitän Michael Kohlmann und sein Team - Jan-Lennard Struff, Dominik Koepfer, Peter Gojowczyk, Kevin Krawietz und Tim Pütz - den zugeschalteten Journalist*innen Rede und Antwort. Wer am Samstag im Auftaktspiel gegen Serbien im Team stehen wird, hat Kohlmann noch nicht festgelegt. "Wir haben das bisher immer so gehandhabt, die Aufstellung erst kurz vor der Partie bzw. der Auslosung bekannt zu geben", so Kohlmann. "In diesem neuen Davis Cup-Format müssen wir sogar erst eine Stunde vor Spielbeginn die Spieler benennen - das macht es besonders. Wir haben uns tatsächlich noch nicht entschieden, alle sind gut drauf, so dass wir sowohl gegen Serbien als auch gegen Österreich unsere Punkte holen können."
Davis Cup ist etwas Besonderes
Allgemein wird erwartet, dass der sehr erfahrene Jan-Lennard Struff im Spitzenspiel am Samstag gegen den Weltranglistenersten Novak Djokovic antreten wird. Der 31-Jährige vertritt bereits zum elften Mal die deutschen Farben beim Davis Cup. Angesprochen auf seine bisherige Bilanz von sechs Niederlagen in sechs Matches gegen den Serben sagte der Warsteiner: "Ich habe vor zwei Tagen mit Sascha Zverev telefoniert und mir ein paar Tipps abgeholt. Die werde ich natürlich nicht preisgeben, aber ich hoffe, dass was Gutes dabei war - es hat sich jedenfalls sehr gut angehört. Man geht in jedes Match, um es zu gewinnen. Davis Cup ist etwas Besonderes, für Deutschland zu spielen sowieso und es wird bestimmt ein ordentliches Match werden."
Optimal auf die Partien vorbereitet
Struff hat sich in den vergangenen Wochen optimal auf die Davis Cup Partien vorbereitet, immer auch mit Blick auf die Australien Open Anfang Januar in Melbourne: "Ich habe mit meinem Team zusammen einen Plan ausgearbeitet, mal ein paar Tage nicht gespielt, dafür Fitness gemacht, danach wieder härter trainiert. Richtung Event wurde es nochmal intensiver und die Trainingstage hier waren bislang alle sehr gut."
Teamspirit ist unheimlich gut
Auch Peter Gojowczyk rechnet sich gute Chancen aus, am Samstag zum Einsatz zu kommen. Sieben Jahre ist es her, als er 2014 in Nancy den Franzosen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in fünf Sätzen niederringen konnte und deutsche Davis Cup-Geschichte schrieb. Nun brennt der Münchner auf sein Comeback: "Es ist ein neues Format für mich und ich freue mich sehr, dass ich hier dabei bin. Wie Jan-Lennard schon gesagt hat - der Teamspirit ist unheimlich gut und wir können loslegen." pm, ots

The 31-year-old is already representing the German colours at the Davis Cup for the eleventh time. Asked about his record of six defeats in six matches against the Serbian, the Warsteiner said: "I spoke to Sascha Zverev on the phone two days ago and picked up a few tips. Of course I won't give them away, but I hope they were good - they sounded very good. You go into every match to win it. Davis Cup is something special, playing for Germany anyway and it will definitely be a decent match."
Optimally prepared for the matches
Struff has prepared himself optimally for the Davis Cup matches in the past weeks, always with a view to the Australian Open in Melbourne at the beginning of January: "I worked out a plan together with my team, didn't play for a few days, did fitness instead, then trained harder again. Towards the event it got even more intense and the training days here have all been very good so far."
Team spirit is incredibly good
Peter Gojowczyk also thinks he has a good chance of playing on Saturday. It was seven years ago in 2014 when he defeated Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in five sets in Nancy and wrote German Davis Cup history. Now the Munich native is eager for his comeback: "It's a new format for me and I'm very happy to be here. As Jan-Lennard already said - the team spirit is incredibly good and we can get going." pm, ots
