Der Stürmer des FC Bayern München hatte 2021 den historischen Tor-Rekord von Gerd Müller mit 40 Saisontoren aus der Saison 1971/72 geknackt und 41-mal getroffen. Mit dem 43. Bundesliga-Tor im Kalenderjahr 2021 holte sich der Stürmer einen weiteren Rekord. Die alte Bestmarke hatte auch hier Müller mit 42 Treffern gehalten. Für seine herausragenden Leistungen, die unglaublichen Tor-Quoten und Rekorde sowie die neue Bundesliga-Bestmarke von 41 Toren in der Saison 2020/21 bekommt er den "Sport Bild-Award für den "Star des Jahres".
Uschi Müller: Witwe von Stürmer-Legende Gerd Müller übernimmt Laudatio
Uschi Müller, Witwe der am 15. August diesen Jahres verstorbenen Stürmer-Legende, hatte die Verleihung des Awards in München symbolisch übernommen. Wegen der strengen Corona-Bestimmungen des FC Bayern konnte sie ihm den Pokal nicht persönlich überreichen. Sie würdigte den polnischen Superstar und zieht einen Vergleich zwischen ihm und Gerd Müller: "Robert ist für mich der Athlet, Gerd war der Artist!"

Sie kann auch nicht verstehen, dass Robert nicht Weltfußballer wurde: "Er hat so eine tolle Saison hinter sich. Der Gerd hätte zu ihm gesagt: ,Gut gemacht, Junge!' Er hätte Robert ganz sicher den Ballon d'Or gegönnt. So etwas wie Neid kannte er ohnehin nie", sagte Uschi Müller im Gespräch mit der Zeitschrift.

Robert Lewandowski: "Zunächst einmal möchte ich mich bei Uschi Müller für die sehr netten Worte bedanken. Und genauso für den Preis, der eine sehr große Ehre für mich ist. Ohne meine Kollegen hätte ich ihn nicht gewinnen können. Ich sehe ihn als Auszeichnung für die ganze Mannschaft, für den ganzen FC Bayern an. Ich bin ein anderer Spielertyp als Gerd Müller. Gerd war an den Beinen viel muskulöser. Meine Spielweise - die Bewegungen und Laufwege - sind anders. Aber wir beide wissen und wussten, dass der Ball über die Torlinie muss. Egal wie. Tor ist Tor."

Wegen der Corona-Pandemie gab es in diesem Jahr keine Gala in der Hamburger Fischauktionshalle, dafür erhielten die Preisträger ihre Awards einzeln und persönlich von der Sport Bild-Redaktion.

Robert Lewandowski, 33, has received the "Sport Bild Award" in the category "Star of the Year".
In 2021, the FC Bayern München striker broke Gerd Müller's historic goal record with 40 goals in the 1971/72 season, scoring 41 times. With his 43rd Bundesliga goal in the calendar year 2021, the striker claimed another record. The old record had also been held by Müller with 42 goals. For his outstanding performances, the unbelievable goal quotas and records as well as the new Bundesliga best of 41 goals in the 2020/21 season, he receives the "Sport Bild Award for the "Star of the Year".
Uschi Müller: Widow of striker legend Gerd Müller to give laudatory speech
Uschi Müller, widow of the striker legend who died on 15 August this year, symbolically took over the presentation of the award in Munich. Due to FC Bayern's strict Corona regulations, she was unable to present the trophy to him personally. She paid tribute to the Polish superstar and drew a comparison between him and Gerd Müller: "Robert is the athlete for me, Gerd was the artist!"

She also can't understand why Robert didn't become world footballer: "He had such a great season. Gerd would have said to him: 'Well done, boy!' He certainly wouldn't have begrudged Robert the Ballon d'Or. He never knew anything like envy anyway," said Uschi Müller in an interview with the magazine.
"I see the award for the whole FC Bayern".
Robert Lewandowski: "First of all, I would like to thank Uschi Müller for the very kind words. And equally for the award, which is a very great honour for me. I could not have won it without my colleagues. I see it as an award for the whole team, for the whole FC Bayern. I am a different type of player than Gerd Müller. Gerd was much more muscular in the legs. My style of play - the movements and runs - are different. But we both know and knew that the ball has to cross the goal line. No matter how. A goal is a goal."
