"Jede militärische Aggression gegen die Ukraine wird massive Konsequenzen nach sich ziehen. Das muss Moskau wissen", sagte der Vizepräsident der konservativen EVP-Fraktion im phoenix-Interview. McAllister rief zum Dialog mit Russland auf, allerdings nicht um jeden Preis: "Die Prinzipien sind klar: Wir stehen für Diplomatie und Dialog mit Moskau. McAllister betonte die Bedeutung der EU bei der Lösung des Ukraine-Konflikts: "Die Europäische Union spielt eine wichtige Rolle und das wird sie auch künftig tun." Klar sei: "Fragen der Sicherheit der Ukraine betreffen die gesamte Sicherheitsarchitektur in Europa." Diese könne nur unter enger Einbeziehung und strategischer Beteiligung der Europäischen Union erfolgen. Die Europäische Union habe die Aufgabe, die europäische Position gemeinsam mit den transatlantischen Partnern USA und Kanada, den NATO-Bündnispartnern und innerhalb der OSZE zu koordinieren.
